Voice lessons at Charlotte Academy of the Arts are for singers of every level and every style, ages 7 through adult. What to expect
Before we start singing, we will match you with the teacher at our studio in Matthews, NC best suited to your goals, vocal style, and experience level. We work around your schedule to find a weekly time that fits. Your teacher will get to know you: the music you love, any prior singing experience, and what you’re hoping to accomplish. There’s no audition, no intimidation, just a welcoming space to sing.
From there, lessons are built around you. Our voice teachers work across classical, musical theatre, contemporary, pop, rock, and beyond, developing proper technique, breath support, and vocal health while keeping students connected to the music that excites them. Good vocal training isn’t just about sounding better; it’s about singing safely and sustainably for life.

Class details
Voice lessons are held once per week on the same day and time so it becomes a natural part of your family’s routine. We offer three lesson lengths to fit different ages, attention spans, and goals:
- 30 minutes $39
- 45 minutes $58.50
- 60 minutes $78
Our lessons run year-round, which keeps students progressing consistently and avoids the regression that comes with breaks in their schedule. We will help you choose the best lesson length at enrollment, and it’s easy to adjust as your student grows.
What’s included
Our voice students receive one-on-one instruction, weekly practice guidance, and access to all optional performance opportunities. As a CAA student, you’ll also have first access to our special events throughout the year including PopArts Kids Night Out, holiday events, and exclusive performance opportunities that go beyond the lesson studio. New students are welcomed to the Charlotte Academy of the Arts family with a tote bag upon enrollment.

What is the minimum age for voice lessons?
We begin private voice lessons at age 7. Young voices are still developing, and we take vocal health seriously. If you have a younger child who loves to sing, we’d love to channel that enthusiasm into one of our piano programs first. Piano builds musicianship, ear training, and rhythm that will make them an even stronger singer when they’re ready.
Does my child need prior experience or training to start?
Not at all. We welcome singers at every level, from complete beginners to students with years of choir or theatre experience. Your teacher will meet you exactly where you are.
What styles of music do you teach?
Our voice instructors teach classical, musical theatre, contemporary, pop, rock, and more. We work with what motivates each student while building the foundational technique that makes every style stronger.
Can you help my child prepare for a musical theatre production or college auditions?
Absolutely! This is one of our specialties. Whether your student is preparing for a school production, a community theatre audition, or a college music program application, your teacher will provide focused, goal-oriented coaching to help them walk in confident and prepared.
Can adults take voice lessons?
Absolutely! Many of our voice students are adults, whether they’re singing for the very first time, returning to music after years away, preparing to join a worship team or community theatre production, or simply giving themselves the gift of finally doing that thing they’ve always wanted to do. Your teacher will meet you where you are, work at your pace, and build lessons around the music you love. It’s never too late to find your voice!
Do any teachers offer combined voice and piano lessons?
Yes, select CAA teachers offer voice and piano combo lessons, which is a wonderful option for musical theatre students, aspiring songwriters, or any singer who wants to learn to accompany themselves. Ask us about this when you enroll and we’ll match you with the right teacher.
What if my child misses a lesson?
Your teacher will share their makeup and cancellation policies with you upon enrollment. If you need to cancel, please reach out to your teacher as soon as possible.
Where is Charlotte Academy of the Arts located?
We’re located in Idlewild Market, Matthews, NC, just off I-485, an easy drive for families throughout the area. We serve students from Matthews, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, Harrisburg, Weddington, Stallings, Monroe, Charlotte, and across both Mecklenburg and Union Counties.
